Amar A. Desai, MD, MPH

President, HealthCare Partners

For nearly two decades as a practicing physician, public health leader and health care executive, Dr. Amar Desai has worked at the intersection of direct patient care and health care systems to help patients lead healthier, more fulfilled lives.

As president of HealthCare Partners, Dr. Desai has focused the heart of his work to develop an innovative and scalable delivery model to improve clinical outcomes, increase affordability, and transform the patient experience by translating clinical excellence into economic value.

Before joining HealthCare Partners, Dr. Desai served as CEO of USC Care where he led transformative growth and helped position Keck Medicine of USC as a regional destination of choice for complex tertiary and quaternary care. From 2010 to 2014, Dr. Desai was a senior executive at DaVita, a global leader in dialysis care, where he led enterprise corporate strategy and advanced integrated kidney care models. Early in his career, Dr. Desai served as an engagement manager at McKinsey & Company.

Dr. Desai received his bachelor’s and medical degrees from Brown University, and his master’s in public health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He completed his internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Desai is active as a clinician and educator, seeing patients and teaching at the VA Hospital in Los Angeles and serving as associate clinical professor of medicine at Keck Medicine of USC.

Derek H. Chao, MD

Chief Medical Officer, HealthCare Partners

Dr. Derek Chao, is passionate about developing relationships with clinicians and helping patients better manage their health. In his role as chief medical officer of HealthCare Partners, he has responsibility for clinical operations, including quality outcomes, care management, disease management and clinician engagement. He joined HealthCare Partners in 2002 and has held many key leadership roles from lead hospitalist, to regional medical director and chief clinical officer.

Dr. Chao’s expertise lies in inpatient hospitalist programs, end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and high risk programs, care management, disease management, pharmacy, chronic health assessment program, care delivery, hospital relationships, and business development opportunities.

He received his medical degree from Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, and completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in nephrology at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center, in the San Fernando Valley.

Craig Dyer

Chief Financial Officer, HealthCare Partners

Craig Dyer serves as chief financial officer for HealthCare Partners, handling day-to-day finance oversight responsibilities and managing financial actions and planning for the region that includes accounting, analytics, strategy and contracting.

He joined the HealthCare Partners corporate strategy team in 2014 and has advanced through various roles across the enterprise, including business development, strategy and managing affiliate operations in our Florida region. Previously, Dyer was a management consultant at Bain & Company, focused on health care and private equity.

Dyer received his MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and a bachelor’s degree in business from Indiana University.
