Torrance, CA, July 16, 2010 —
Torrance Memorial Medical Center, HealthCare Partners Medical Group, Cancer Care Associates and the California Hematology Oncology Medical Group have joined together in partnership and formed the South Bay Survivorship Consortium to bring a wider array of support resources to those diagnosed with cancer, undergoing treatment or in remission.  The group will present “Exploring Dimensions of Your Survivorship: A Workshop for Cancer Survivors and Loved Ones,” from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, August 17 at Torrance Memorial Medical Center, West Tower Auditorium, 2nd Floor, 3330 Lomita Blvd., Torrance.  Admission is FREE.  Seating is limited and reservations can be made by calling 310-517-4660.

“The consortium’s model of coordinated support brings survivors and their loved ones closer to the resources that will give them strength as they complete their cancer treatment and transition back to living their lives to the fullest. With quality care, a team of highly skilled health professionals and emotional support, those diagnosed will be better equipped to deal with changes they will experience,” said Miriam Sleven, R.N., M.S., O.C.N.®, Cancer Survivorship Program Coordinator at Torrance Memorial Medical Center.

The workshop brings together physical, psychological and spiritual expertise in accessible roundtable discussions where guests can participate.  Melanie Friedlander, M.D., will present the keynote address “Cancer Survivorship Today.” Topics include: “Managing Long-term and Late Effects of Treatment” (Susan Starr, N.P., Cancer Care Associates); “Nutrition and Exercise for Survivors” (Sheryl Au, P.T., Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Roslyn Holtz, R.D.E., HealthCare Partners); “Managing Your Fears” (Kathy Calderon Lacey, N.P., M.F.T., Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Rick Tibor, P.S.Y.D, Ph.D.) and “Spirituality and Survivorship” (Reverend James Kim, Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Robin Dieda, L.C.S.W.).
