Torrance, CA, November 7, 2011
– Seniors age 65 and older are invited to join HealthCare Partners for a free day of wellness and entertainment at the HealthCare Partners “Musical Celebration for Seniors” in Los Angeles. The event will be held on November 20, 2011, at the HealthCare Partners medical office at 1025 West Olympic Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA. 90015, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free tickets for seniors and one guest each are required; please call 1.888.988.8072 to reserve a ticket.

This special event will feature singer Lenny Williams, well-known for the influential ballad, “Cause I Love You,” and as the lead vocalist of the 70s funk and soul group, Tower of Power. He will be joined by the legendary Charles Wright of the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, and La Sonora Santanera, a band whose first hit songs include "La Boa" and "Los Aretes de la Luna.” All performers will sign autographs for seniors and take pictures along with José José, “El Príncipe de la Canción” (The Prince of Song). The Musical Celebration for Seniors also includes performances by the New Orleans Jazz Band, El Charro Negro, and Mariachi Latino.

“The event is a chance to enjoy a day of great entertainment while learning about changes to Medicare and Medi-Cal, and getting a flu shot and health screenings for cholesterol, diabetes, stroke, and more,” explained Arturo Diaz, director of marketing for HealthCare Partners Medical Group. “HealthCare Partners will be offering seniors music and important help with their health and wellness at no charge.”

Added Diaz: “HealthCare Partners continues to demonstrate its commitment to providing high quality care to Medicare beneficiaries throughout Los Angeles and Orange counties. HealthCare Partners was a proud sponsor of the 6th Annual Taste of Soul event, which had a record-breaking crowd of more than 200,000 people. We thank the LA Sentinel and Compton radio station KJLH-FM for helping to promote this special event.”

On September 25, a similar event was held in Carson in which more than 4,000 persons attended and hundreds were screened for a variety of medical risks. Results of the screenings identified many seniors at high risk, who may require a healthcare intervention:

• 37.8% had high-cholesterol levels
• 30.5% had low HCL and high triglyceride values
• 7.3% were at high risk for a cardiac ailment within the next 10 years
• 17.8% showed high blood glucose (sugar) and were at risk for diabetes
• 1.5% showed moderate to severe blockage of the carotid artery and were at risk for stroke
• 2.9% were at high risk for bone fracture and the onset of osteoporosis
• More than 400 attendees were vaccinated against the flu

“We wish to thank our host, Carson’s Mayor Jim Dear, a HealthCare Partners patient himself, who attended the event and welcomed guests,” said Diaz.
