“Ultimately there are a number of inherent advantages in the physician-led ACO model. For example, ACOs achieve shared savings when they focus on reducing both emergency department utilization and hospital admissions. From a physician-led ACO perspective, decreasing costly inpatient utilization does not negatively impact a provider-based revenue stream and aligns with its focus on avoiding unnecessary utilization through its care model, which is designed to keep patients safer, healthier and out of the hospital.”
